Chief Executive Blog – February 2019

Posted 20th February 2019

Welcome to the third blog of 2019. In this edition I’m going to give you information about

  • Celebrating 30 years of Fair Deal
  • GDPR
  • Connecting on Board – #Vamos
  • Connecting Neighbourhoods
  • SVQ level 3 / SQA level 7 – update

Celebrating 30 years of Fair Deal:

In the January blog we told you about the plans to hold an event at the Glencairn Club on Thursday March 28th. We are encouraging people that we work with to let us know if they would like tickets for the event. The evening is free and tickets are limited to two per person. If anyone would like more tickets then they should contact the Business Support Team who will take names and these will be placed on a waiting list. If there is availability we will work through the waiting list to allocate the tickets. For more information please e-mail the Business Support Team on info@fair-deal.org or give them a call on 0141 634 4996

Connecting on Board:

#Vamos – Let’s go.

Fair Deal are piloting a new independent travel initiative called #Vamos which will enable people to travel independently ultimately giving greater access to jobs, services and social networks. Travelling independently empowers people to take greater control in their lives and take advantage of opportunities in the wider community, and for many people, will save money by reducing taxi costs and encourage more sustainable, active travel options.. For the pilot, Fair Deal identified 8 Fair Deal workers to take part in the specialised training provided by Values into Action Scotland.  This training took place early January and since then each of the trainers (known as participants) has been matched with an individual (known as trainee) who would like to learn how to make an independent journey. There has been meetings for parents, trainees, participants and the project team to get together to discuss the progress of the initiative which will run until Spring time. We have got off to a good start and look forward to updating you will how the journeys are progressing!

Connecting Neighbourhoods:

The first meeting of staff working with the seven  providers involved in Connecting Neighbourhoods in  Castlemilk on the 4th of February went well. Fair Deal was well represented. We had 9 staff on the day: a mix of support staff, team leaders and our Quality and Development Manager. Margaret Fenton and Pauline Martin were involved in a conversation about Fair Deal’s experience of redesigning the night-time support arrangements for four people at Stravanan Road. This was well received and feedback has been positive.

On the 27th of February, four of our support workers are heading to Wishaw to meet with other people at SOL Connect as part of a study tour. They will be out and about with colleagues from SOL and the other partners, meeting with and visiting people who access technology enabled support. We will feedback their experience in a future blog.

Margaret and Pauline are delivering a presentation to the Board on February 26th on the achievements so far.

SVQ level 3/ SQA level 7 -Health & Social Care:

We will be confirming in writing who has been allocated a place on the next round of SVQ training within the next few weeks. If you would like more information please speak to your line manager.
