Gail joined Fair Deal in January 2016 as the Team Leader for the Help Yourself Grow programme. Working closely with her colleague Scott Green, Gail has been developing and promoting this exciting project, building on the initial success of the pilot programme. The first year of Help Yourself Grow comprises of 2 gardening and 2 cookery training programmes which commenced in early July 2016. Each session lasts for 4 hours and the training programme will run for a period of 12 months. The trainees will have the opportunity to gain an accreditation, as well as develop confidence and meet new friends, whilst learning new skills and knowledge. Gail has also been able to offer some additional
development opportunities to some of the trainees due to a partnership with The Village Storytelling Centre, hosting of the HYG launch, MacMillan Biggest Coffee morning and visits to other projects. Gail has regular contact with the horticultural and cookery trainers to ensure that the programme is meeting the expectations of the young people and feedback is gathered from the trainees and their parents/carers regularly.
