Fair Deal was originally set up by parents and carers of people with learning disabilities and this year sees the organisation celebrate its 30th Anniversary. To celebrate this amazing milestone, we are planning on hosting a range of activities which will promote the organisation and build the capacity of the individuals we are working with. We hope this year will be a great success and it is great to see that the legacy of the parents and carers who originally set up this organisation lives on!
The recent IIP assessment highlighted a need for the organisation to review the current reward and recognition scheme and it was decided that there would be an introduction of a peer recognition scheme based on the Fair Deal values of Empowering, Innovative and Encouraging.
A donation made by the late Kenny MacLiver’s family has allowed us to introduce this award and we are very grateful for this gesture.
Anyone can nominate any Fair Deal staff member for this scheme, and they can be nominated in more than one category. A panel will then review these nominations and three successful candidates will receive an award and £100 each. These awards will be presented at the AGM on the 24th September which is set to be a great event.
All nominations should be submitted to our Chief Executive Ann Marie Docherty by 12 noon on Thursday 20th June.
After consultation with the people we support and staff members it was agreed that we would host several events throughout the year to celebrate our 30th Anniversary.
These events include a party night in The Glencairn Club on the 28th March, a summer fun day at Fernhill Community Centre on 25th June and an organisation day and AGM on the 24th September at Fernhill Community Centre. These events will be free to attend and will host a range of activities such as arts & crafts, beauty treatments, sports tournaments and much more!
In addition to these exciting events, we will also be hosting an Afternoon Tea at The Birgidale Complex on 6th June. This event is more intimate, and we are planning to invite our founding members, current members, parents and carers.
To round off the year there will also be a Christmas Pantomime event at Fernhill Community centre so stay tuned for updates on these events which will be posted on our Facebook page!
